ARC World festival returns to Markham with Simu Liu and Jeremy Lin

The Asian Roots Collective is bringing its ARC World festival back to Markham, Ontario, on Sept. 12. The one‑day event, which began as the Chinese Canadian Youth Athletic Association in 1995, provides basketball programming and now celebrates Asian excellence across sport, arts and business.

Actor Simu Liu, who helped launch the festival in 2019 with a celebrity basketball game that raised money for the foundation led by former NBA player Jeremy Lin, says the event offers young Asian Canadians visible role models. Lin noted recent backlash against diversity and inclusion efforts and emphasized the need for continued support. The festival will feature athletes, actors, musicians, entrepreneurs, chefs and local community groups.

Liu, best known for "Shang‑Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings," also has an upcoming role in the film "Avengers: Doomsday."
