Argentina reports surge in online gambling revenue

Argentina’s Agency of Collection and Customs Control (ARCA) has reported a significant surge in online gambling tax revenue during the first eight months of 2026. According to data from the consultancy Analytica, revenue from online betting saw a 40% year-on-year increase during the first seven months of the year, with the highest growth occurring in June and July.

Experts attribute this spike to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, which drove widespread betting activity among friends and families. A report by Voices! Research & Consultancy indicated that one-third of Argentines participated in various forms of betting during the tournament. Demographic data shows that 60% of bettors are men, and half of all participants are between the ages of 18 and 29.

While the increase boosts ARCA’s collections under Law 27.346—which imposes indirect taxes on digital gambling ranging from 2.5% to 15%—experts warn of rising social risks. There are growing concerns regarding the proximity of adult gambling to minors and the long-term habits of new users, as 46% of those who bet during the tournament intend to continue doing so.
