ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih hit by Russian missile strike

A Russian missile strike on the ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih steel plant in central Ukraine has killed two people and injured at least 13 employees and contractors. The attack, which occurred overnight, caused significant damage to the facility’s main energy systems and blast furnace production units.

As a result of the damage, the company has partially suspended production. ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih, which is Ukraine’s largest integrated steel company and owned by billionaire Lakshmi Mittal, is currently assessing the extent of the destruction and the timeline for restoring operations.

The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed the strike on the metallurgical complex, stating it was a combined operation using precision weapons and long-range drones. Moscow claimed the facility was targeted because it produces rolled steel used in the manufacturing of Ukrainian military equipment and weapons. ArcelorMittal has condemned the attack, emphasizing that the plant is civilian industrial infrastructure.
