ArcelorMittal Liberia honors four rail workers for preventing safety incident
ArcelorMittal Liberia has recognized four railway employees for their role in preventing a major safety incident on the company’s mainline. During an Incident Prevention Safety Award Ceremony in Buchanan, train drivers Norman Chidarikire and Rynier McCabe, along with train assistants Stanley Mulbah and Horace S. Neppy, were honored for their swift response to a potential hazard.
Management stated that the crew’s ability to maintain composure and follow procedures protected both lives and critical railway infrastructure. The railway line connects mining operations in Yekepa to the Port of Buchanan, passing through various communities.
In addition to the awards, the company announced it is installing driver alert systems on locomotives to mitigate the risks of fatigue on the Yekepa to Buchanan route. Rail General Manager Felipe Lage emphasized that while safety equipment and procedures are essential, employee alertness remains a decisive layer of protection.
