ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India promotes corrosion‑resistant steel for India's solar expansion

ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) says durable, corrosion‑resistant steel is essential for India’s goal of 500 GW renewable capacity by 2030. With solar capacity expected to rise from about 135 GW to 300 GW, the company highlights the need for long‑lasting mounting structures that can endure varied weather conditions.

The firm’s Magnelis® steel, featuring a patented zinc‑aluminium‑magnesium coating with self‑healing properties, has already been used in roughly 6 GW of solar projects, supplying around 200,000 tonnes of material. AM/NS India launched Magnelis in September 2024 and operates a dedicated production line at its Hazira, Gujarat plant capable of 500,000 tonnes per year.

AM/NS India also notes its own decarbonisation targets, aiming to cut emissions intensity to 1.8 tCO₂ per tonne of crude steel by FY2030. “As India scales up solar capacity to meet its clean‑energy targets, equal attention must be paid to the durability and longevity of the infrastructure being created,” said Ranjan Dhar, Director & Vice President, Sales & Marketing.
