ArcelorMittal Spain labor talks falter as unions reject agreement and employee dismissed

Spanish unions have rejected the 2026 framework proposed by ArcelorMittal, with CC OO assemblies in Asturias voting 50% against the deal despite a narrow approval in the Basque Country. The agreement, which includes wage rises tied to the CPI, early retirements for workers aged 62‑63, new permanent hires and a reduction of the annual work week by eight hours, required joint support from UGT FICA and CC OO. The strong opposition from CC OO in Asturias threatens the overall settlement.

Separately, ArcelorMittal’s plant in Sagunt dismissed a worker after he struck a colleague with a motorcycle helmet during a dispute. The company justified the immediate termination, citing the seriousness of the assault even though it occurred outside regular work hours, and imposed a five‑day suspension on two other employees involved.
