ARCEP engages with consumers to improve digital service quality in Burkina Faso
The regulatory authority ARCEP held a workshop in Ziniaré, Burkina Faso, to strengthen dialogue with consumer protection associations regarding electronic communication services. The meeting focused on service quality, pricing transparency, and the protection of user rights.
During the sessions, mobile operators presented their commercial offers and complaint handling processes. Economic analysis indicated that recent regulatory decisions have led to significant price reductions for certain services. Specifically, for the designated dominant operator, monthly 1 GB internet packages saw average decreases of approximately 45%, SMS rates to other networks dropped by 50%, and voice call costs decreased by 30%.
In addition to pricing, ARCEP is implementing measures to improve service quality through audit campaigns, action plan monitoring, and investigations. The regulator aims to promote healthy competition and ensure that digital platforms and mobile financial services continue to support the country’s socio-economic development and financial inclusion.
