Arcfox prepares low-cost Beta T1 EV with battery swapping technology

Chinese automaker Arcfox is preparing to launch a new version of its affordable Beta T1 electric vehicle model, designed to address charging times and high purchase costs. According to filings with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the new model will utilize the ‘Choco-SEB’ battery swapping system developed by CATL.

This technology allows drivers to swap a depleted battery for a fully charged one at a station within minutes, bypassing the need for long charging sessions. Additionally, the vehicle will feature a ‘Battery as a Service’ (BaaS) model. Under this system, consumers can purchase the car without paying the upfront cost of the battery, instead opting for a subscription or rental arrangement.

By separating the battery cost from the vehicle price, the entry-level cost is expected to drop significantly. Based on pricing strategies used for the Beta S3 model, the Beta T1 could see its starting price fall to approximately $7,000.
