Archaeological discoveries made in Grunwald Fields and Miechów

Archaeologists and explorers in Poland have made two distinct historical discoveries. In the Grunwald Fields, members of the Olsztyn Historical-Exploratory Association ‘Medalion’ uncovered a massive steel scout cross. Measuring approximately 60 by 60 centimeters and featuring a metal oak leaf wreath, the object is believed to have been part of a camp construction, such as a gate or an altar, used during large-scale scouting events in the second half of the 20th century.

In Miechów, researchers Paweł Micyk and Marek Michta have used ground-penetrating radar to confirm local legends regarding a system of underground tunnels. The investigation, which began following a 2010 discovery near the monastery of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre, revealed a tunnel network more extensive than previously imagined. The researchers conducted their work non-invasively with permission from local authorities and religious leaders.
