Archaeological discoveries reported in Czersk and Warsaw

Significant archaeological finds have been reported in Poland. In Czersk, plans are underway to establish a museum dedicated to a rare 15th-century shipwreck known as a szkuta. Discovered in 2009 in an old branch of the Vistula River and recovered in 2018, the vessel is nearly complete and measures 30 meters in length and 7 meters in width. Dendrochronological studies confirm the wood was harvested in the late 15th century. The ship, which could carry up to 100 tons of grain, has been undergoing specialized conservation for over five years to prevent decay after exposure to air.

Separately, excavation work at Mariensztat in Warsaw has revealed a fragment of a former tenement house facade, including a balcony. The Mariensztat area has a rich history dating back to the 18th century when it served as a private town. These findings provide further insight into the historical urban development and maritime trade of the region.
