Archaeological discoveries reported in Ventimiglia and Minori

Archaeological excavations in Italy have yielded significant findings in both Ventimiglia and Minori. In Ventimiglia, a new excavation campaign conducted by the Istituto Internazionale di Studi Liguri (IISL) at the ancient Roman site of Albintimilium has uncovered two additional stone sarcophagi. These artifacts, crafted from Pietra di Finale, were found previously looted and without their original covers. This brings the total number of stone sarcophagi identified in the late antique funerary area to twelve, highlighting the importance of the necropolis which remained in use until at least the mid-7th century AD.

In Minori, restoration and consolidation work is ongoing at the Villa Romana Marittima. Progress has been slowed by the discovery of painted walls that require extreme caution due to long-term humidity damage. The site is part of a significant Roman route connecting Rome to Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast. Local discussions continue regarding the site's accessibility, including the need for improved entrances and visitor infrastructure.
