Archaeological finds reveal Renaissance and medieval history in Czechia and Slovakia
Archaeological excavations in the Czech Republic and Slovakia have yielded significant historical findings. In Opava, Czech Republic, researchers are exhibiting unique Renaissance-era luxury items discovered in a waste pit. The collection, belonging to the Macák of Ottenburg family from the late 16th and early 17th centuries, includes high-quality ceramics, glass vessels, and various household items such as pans, bowls, and even a leather-bound book.
In Slovakia, excavations near Rimavská Sobota at the Kľačianske lúky site have revealed structures dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries. Preliminary findings suggest the presence of either a heavy-duty pit used for extracting bog iron ore or a ford across a now-extinct watercourse. These discoveries provide new insights into the economic and settlement patterns of the region during the late Middle Ages and early modern period.
