Archaeological investigations in Asturias progress with non‑invasive tech and new excavations

The municipality of Llanes has launched a non‑invasive archaeological survey at Punta Jarri (also known as Punta de la Talá) using multichannel ground‑penetrating radar, LiDAR and micro‑topographic mapping. Mayor Enrique Riestra attended the opening of the work, which is led by archaeologist Esperanza Martín, to identify and document any sub‑surface structures without disturbing the site.

In nearby Llanera, a seventh‑season excavation at the Roman‑medieval site of Lucus Asturum was visited by Mayor Eva María Pérez and Cultural Heritage Director Pablo León. The team, also headed by Esperanza Martín, uncovered a medieval burial of a young male within the former church precinct, several infant graves, and a Roman domestic building with painted walls and ceramic finds. The discoveries aim to clarify the transition from the Roman settlement to the medieval religious and funerary landscape of Asturias.
