Archaeological projects resume in Calabria, Italy
Archaeological activities have resumed in the Calabria region of Italy, focusing on the ancient site of Temesa in Serra d’Aiello and the restoration of the Fontana del Balilla in Cosenza.
In Serra d’Aiello, a collaborative effort between the local administration, the Soprintendenza, and the University of Calabria has launched a dual excavation campaign. These efforts aim to uncover new historical vestiges and facilitate the reopening of the local archaeological museum. Scientific explorations are being led by the University of Calabria at Cozzo Piano Grande, while the Soprintendenza manages a second excavation front.
In Cosenza, the restoration of the Fontana del Balilla in Piazza Crispi has been completed. The project was a joint initiative involving the municipal administration, the University of Calabria, and the Soprintendenza. The restoration addressed damage caused by weathering, water infiltration, and metal corrosion, utilizing advanced techniques such as biopurification and three-dimensional technologies to restore the monument's forms.
