Archaeological site in Rešetari reveals 216 medieval graves
Archaeological excavations at the Lipanovac – Pustošina (Grgurevo) site in the Rešetari Municipality have uncovered a total of 216 graves. The site, located southeast of Drežnik, features a single-nave medieval church with a semi-circular apse that was first confirmed during initial excavations in 2019.
During the most recent campaign, researchers identified 64 additional graves, bringing the total from 152 to 216. The remains date from the first half of the 14th century to the first half of the 18th century, indicating centuries of continuous use. Previous significant finds include a tomb within the church sanctuary containing six individuals dating from the late 15th to the mid-16th century.
The research is conducted by the Archaeological Heritage Service of the Croatian Restoration Institute in collaboration with the City Museum Nova Gradiška. Since 2024, the Institute of Anthropology in Zagreb has also participated to provide field and laboratory bioarchaeological analysis.
