Archaeological sites discovered during BR-153 highway works in Paraná

Archaeological excavations during the duplication of the BR-153 highway between Jacarezinho and Santo Antônio da Platina in Paraná have uncovered five archaeological sites. The findings include pottery fragments, glass, and porcelain, which are believed to date from the second half of the 19th century to the early 20th century (approximately 1860 to 1925).

Four of the sites are located in Jacarezinho, while a fifth site at Pedra Criminosa contains rock carvings. The artifacts are being removed and investigated by archaeological teams and the National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage (IPHAN). The materials will be analyzed and sent to the State University of Maringá (UEM).

EPR Litoral Pioneiro, the concessionaire responsible for the works, stated that construction teams have been relocated to other sections of the highway to allow for the removal and investigation of the artifacts. The company emphasized its commitment to environmental licensing and the preservation of historical heritage.
