Archaeological sites in Kalkriese and Windesheim draw interest

Archaeological sites and events are drawing attention in Europe. In Kalkriese, Germany, excavations continue to reveal a unique site filled with military artifacts, coins, and gold pieces. The area, once known as Goldacker, is believed to be the location of a Roman army conflict involving Germanic tribes during the first century AD, possibly linked to the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest or later retaliatory actions by Germanicus.

In Windesheim, Netherlands, the National Archaeology Days 2026 will take place from June 19 to June 21. The event features an open excavation pit near the Windesheim Church where visitors can participate in fieldwork, clean finds, and learn documentation techniques. The program includes guided tours by Mink de Vries and activities at the ANNO Stadsmuseum Zwolle, where the public can explore how archaeological discoveries are scientifically analyzed.
