Archaeological survey in Vounaina reveals prehistoric settlement data
The Mayor of Kileler, Thanasis Nasiakopoulos, and Community President Makis Chatziliadis met with a scientific research team in Vounaina to discuss the results of a five-year archaeological program. The project, a joint initiative between the Larissa Ephorate of Antiquities and the University of Thessaly, focuses on surface surveys of prehistoric and ancient settlements in the Revenia mountain range.
The first phase of the program, approved by the Ministry of Culture, was led by Deputy Head of the Larissa Ephorate of Antiquities Giorgos Toufexis and Assistant Professor of Prehistoric Archaeology Stella Souvatzis. This year's three-week research period involved 11 graduate and doctoral students who practiced field survey methods and the documentation of archaeological materials.
The program aims to identify ancient settlements and study their relationship with the landscape and historical context. Research areas were selected near the Revenia range, situated between significant ancient sites such as Krannon, Sykeonas, and the city currently being excavated in Vlochos.
