Archaeologists and experts discuss heritage and tourism in Croatia and Slovenia

Archaeologists and cultural experts recently convened for events focused on heritage preservation and its role in regional development. At an international scientific conference organized by the Croatian Archaeological Society in Čakovec, Professor Martina Blečić Kavur presented research on the history of Slovenian archaeology and the materiality of Histrian stone sculptures in Nezakcija.

Blečić Kavur was also awarded the ‘Josip Brunšmid for the year 2024’ for her international exhibition project, ‘Heroic Age of the Histrians’ (2023–2025). The project aimed to bridge scientific research with public education and increase the international recognition of Istrian archaeology.

In a separate discussion held at the Petar Preradović Interpretation Center in Grabrovnica, experts explored how preserved cultural heritage can drive tourism. The panel emphasized the importance of connecting cultural and natural heritage to sustainable economic growth. Discussions included the development of the ‘Nobility Route’ and the upcoming ‘Camino Nobilis’ sacred route, highlighting a shift toward offering intangible heritage experiences that involve local communities.
