Archaeologists discover hidden Incan pathway network near Machu Picchu

Archaeologists using LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology have discovered a hidden network of structures near the ancient Incan site of Machu Picchu in Peru. According to the Peruvian Ministry of Culture, the research revealed approximately 2.5 kilometers of ancient pathways dating back to the pre-Spanish conquest era.

A significant finding includes a main road over one kilometer long featuring unique construction elements, such as a built-in zigzag path, which suggests Incan origin. In addition to these roads, researchers identified various terraces and structures surrounding the site. While these findings share characteristics with known Incan architectural styles, scientists are still working to definitively confirm the exact builders of these specific installations.

The area remains a major archaeological focus, with the site itself believed to have been established in the 15th century as a potential residence for Incan rulers.
