Archaeologists to stream live excavation at El Shincal de Quimivil

Researchers will host a live interactive streaming event titled “Expedición Inka 2026” to showcase an archaeological excavation at El Shincal de Quimivil in Catamarca, Argentina. From November 17 to 20, the public can observe real-time fieldwork, including terrain surveying, excavation, and the recording of findings.

The project is a collaborative effort involving the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (Conicet), the National University of La Plata (UNLP), the National University of Catamarca (UNCA), and the Azara Foundation. The expedition focuses on studying a “kancha,” an architectural structure consisting of various enclosures arranged around a central courtyard, to better understand Inca social practices and spatial organization.

El Shincal de Quimivil was a significant political, administrative, and ceremonial center of the Inca Empire (Tawantinsuyu) between 1471 and 1536. The live broadcasts will take place between 11:00 and 13:00 via the Azara Foundation’s YouTube channel, allowing viewers to interact with specialists during the scientific campaign.
