Archana Veeramani detained at Chennai airport during SIT probe
Archana Veeramani, daughter of businessman R. Veeramani, was de-boarded from a Singapore-bound flight at Chennai airport on Friday afternoon. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) detained her for questioning regarding the ongoing investigation into sexual offense cases involving her father.
Police officials stated they suspected Archana might possess knowledge concerning financial transactions linked to the case or information regarding her father’s alleged offenses. While no Look Out Circular (LOC) had been issued against her, authorities had previously advised the family not to leave the country during the probe. Her legal counsel noted that she had informed the SIT of her intention to travel to Singapore to visit her unwell son.
Following the interrogation, Archana reported ill health and was taken to a private hospital for medical treatment. Meanwhile, a POCSO court has granted the SIT two days of custody for R. Veeramani and two associates for further questioning. R. Veeramani faces eight charges, including seven POCSO cases and one case involving the incitement of suicide.
