Archbishop Burger calls for stable support for aid organizations

Archbishop Stephan Burger of Freiburg, chair of the Commission for Charitable Affairs of the German Bishops' Conference, has called for the long-term development and stable support of humanitarian aid organizations.

Speaking on World Humanitarian Day, Burger praised the courage and humanity of volunteers and employees in both Catholic and secular aid groups who operate under difficult conditions. He noted that many aid workers are themselves affected by the crises they work to mitigate.

Reflecting on recent travels to Peru and Armenia, the Archbishop highlighted how established charitable structures and dense networks of volunteers provide essential relief, such as food, shelter, and medical care, even after public attention has shifted away from a disaster.
