Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen beatification preparations announced
Preparations are underway for the beatification of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, scheduled for September 24, 2026, in St. Louis, Missouri. The event marks a significant milestone for the Catholic Church, recognizing Sheen as “Blessed” following the identification of a miraculous healing attributed to his intercession.
To commemorate the occasion, various religious activities and pilgrimages have been organized. The Diocese of Peoria has announced a schedule of spiritual events, including a nine-day novena and an anniversary Mass of Sheen’s ordination. In Newark, New Jersey, the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart will host a special display from September 19 to October 8, featuring a second-class relic: a chasuble worn by Sheen during a 1977 visit.
Sheen, a prominent figure in American religious history, was known for his influential radio and television programs, such as “Life Is Worth Living,” which reached millions of viewers. His legacy also includes his active participation in the Second Vatican Council, where he served on the Commission for Missions and advocated for the Church’s responsibility toward the poor.
