Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen to be beatified in St. Louis

Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, a prominent 20th-century Catholic media figure and evangelist, is set to be beatified on September 24, 2026, in St. Louis, Missouri. The ceremony will take place at the Dome at America’s Center and is expected to be presided over by Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, representing Pope Leo XIV.

Sheen was a pioneer in religious broadcasting, hosting programs such as ‘The Catholic Hour’ and ‘Life Is Worth Living,’ which reached millions of viewers. His beatification follows the official authentication of a miracle involving the survival of James Fulton Engstrom, a child who was declared clinically dead for 61 minutes before being successfully resuscitated.

Events surrounding the beatification include pilgrimages to Peoria, Illinois—where Sheen was ordained and where his remains are entombed—as well as various Holy Hours and Masses. The occasion marks a significant milestone as Sheen is poised to become the first American-born bishop to be beatified.
