Archbishop Gustavo Carrara to Crown Image of Mama Antula in La Plata Cathedral

On Sunday, 2 August 2026, the Cathedral of La Plata will host a ceremony to bless and enthrone an image of Santa María Antonia de Paz y Figueroa, popularly known as Mama Antula. The event, scheduled for 12:00 p.m., will be presided over by Archbishop Gustavo Carrara, who will lead the Mass and the dedication of the statue.

Mama Antula, the first Argentine saint, was a laywoman who walked barefoot across the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata after the Jesuit expulsion in 1767, preserving spiritual practices and founding the Congregation of the Daughters of the Divine Savior.
