Archbishop Kaigama calls for peace and forgiveness in Nigeria

The Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Ignatius Ayau Kaigama, has called on Nigerians to reject vengeance and animosity in favor of peace, forgiveness, and reconciliation to foster national unity and development.

Speaking through the National Chaplain of the Pious Union of Saint Rita of Cascia, Rev. Fr. Richard Igyor, at the union's 2026 National Feast Celebration in Abuja, the Archbishop emphasized that virtues such as perseverance and faith are essential as the country faces insecurity and political tensions. Igyor noted that true devotion should be reflected in how citizens treat others in their homes, workplaces, and leadership roles.

During the event, which drew over 1,000 devotees, Prior General Cecilia Oyakhire highlighted the role of women as nation-builders who can promote peaceful coexistence by raising children with strong moral values. Additionally, former Auditor-General Dr. Ukura Samuel urged Nigerian leaders to adopt a spirit of selfless service and fairness to avoid victimizing opponents and subordinates.
