Archbishop of Madrid presides over Migrant and Refugee Day Mass in Mar del Plata

Cardinal José Cobo Cano, the Archbishop of Madrid, presided over a diocesan Mass at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Cecilia in Mar del Plata to celebrate the Day of the Migrant and the Refugee. The event was organized by the Diocesan Commission for Migrants and Itinerants and included participation from various immigrant collectives, pastoral agents, and institutional representatives.

The celebration highlighted the historical and pastoral ties between the Churches of Madrid and Mar del Plata. Bishop Ernesto Giobando noted that the identity of the Mar del Plata Diocese is deeply shaped by migration, specifically citing the historical arrival of Spanish and Italian immigrants in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Attendees included representatives from several communities, such as the Italian collective, the Spanish Club, the Center of Castile and León, and Armenian residents. The event also featured musical contributions from the Mar del Plata Galician Center bagpipers.
