Archbishop Přibyl proposes potential visit by Pope Leo XIV to Czech Republic
Prague Archbishop Stanislav Přibyl has expressed interest in a visit to the Czech Republic by Pope Leo XIV, suggesting the years 2028 or 2029 as potential dates to coincide with significant anniversaries.
Archbishop Přibyl intends to discuss the possibility of a visit with the new Apostolic Nuncio, Eugene Martin Nugent. The Archbishop noted that both political and church leadership would welcome the visit, as the last papal visit to the country was by Pope Benedict XVI in 2009.
Proposed occasions for the visit include the 400th anniversary of the gift of the Infant Jesus of Prague statue in 1628. Pope Leo XIV, formerly Cardinal Robert Prevost of the United States, is noted to be familiar with Czech cities such as Prague and Brno through his previous work with the Augustinians.
