Archbishop Ricardo Centellas Guzmán to be buried in Sucre

Thousands of faithful and authorities have gathered in Sucre to mourn the death of Monsignor Ricardo Ernesto Centellas Guzmán, the Archbishop of Sucre and former President of the Bolivian Episcopal Conference.

Centellas passed away at age 63 in Oruro on September 24 due to a sudden cardiac arrest while participating in activities for the Universidad Católica Boliviana. His remains were transported from Oruro to the Metropolitan Cathedral in Sucre, where a multi-day vigil has been held.

The funeral mass and burial are scheduled for Tuesday, September 29, at 10:00 AM in the Sucre Metropolitan Cathedral, following the tradition of interring archbishops within the temple. During homilies, religious leaders such as Monsignor Stanislaw Dowlaszewicz have expressed condolences to the Church and the family, emphasizing the legacy of Centellas’s ministry.
