Archbishop Ronald Hicks leads 9/11 memorial services in New York

Religious and civic leaders gathered in New York to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks through various memorial services.

At St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Archbishop Ronald Hicks led a vigil Mass attended by approximately 2,000 clergy and laypeople, including former President Joe Biden, New York Governor Kathy Hochul, and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. During his homily, Hicks emphasized that healing, peace, and unity require active effort rather than passive remembrance.

Additionally, an interfaith memorial service was held at the Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and Shrine near Ground Zero. The service honored those who perished in the attacks and highlighted the resilience of the church, which was the only house of worship destroyed during the event and was rebuilt in 2022. Archbishop Hicks participated in the service and noted the importance of different faith traditions coming together in unity to pray for peace.
