Archdiocese of Buenos Aires rejects baptisms at Cristina Kirchner's home

The Archdiocese of Buenos Aires has rejected a proposal to hold community baptisms in front of the residence of former President Cristina Kirchner, where she is currently serving house arrest. The religious institution issued a statement clarifying that it has not authorized any community baptisms outside of temples for the coming months.

The Archdiocese emphasized that the administration of sacraments is not an opportunity to express political opinions, but rather a moment of faith. The institution noted that any celebration of a sacrament outside of parish temples requires express permission from the archdiocesan ecclesiastical authority and the consent of the local parish priest.

The controversial initiative, which circulated on social media, scheduled the event for September 5 at San José 1111. The digital invitation suggested that Kirchner would serve as a ‘spiritual godmother’ during a ceremony themed around ‘fraternity, sorority, and social justice.’

Representatives for Cristina Kirchner have distanced themselves from the proposal, stating they were unaware of who organized it and asserting that the event will not take place. They clarified that neither Kirchner nor her political circle promoted the initiative.
