Archdiocese of Juiz de Fora prepares celebrations for Our Lady of the Rosary
The Archdiocese of Juiz de Fora is preparing for celebrations in honor of Our Lady of the Rosary. Local parishes, including the Nossa Senhora do Rosário Parish in Granbery, have organized a series of prayer sessions, masses, and community meetings throughout early October.
The feast day, observed on October 7, commemorates the Battle of Lepanto in 1571. Following the victory of the Christian fleet against the Ottoman Empire, Pope Pius V attributed the success to the intercession of the Virgin Mary through the recitation of the Rosary.
The tradition of the Rosary dates back to the 13th century with Saint Dominic de Guzman. The devotion serves as a method of meditation on the lives of Jesus and Mary through various mysteries, and is historically recognized as a significant practice within the Catholic Church.
