Archdiocese of Krakow implements new communication and pastoral guidelines

The Archdiocese of Krakow is undergoing significant internal shifts regarding communication and pastoral approaches. In her new book, “Truth Heals,” professor Paulina Guzik argues that the Catholic Church must prioritize listening to victims of clerical sexual abuse over protecting its institutional reputation. Her research suggests that communication should be treated as a responsibility toward survivors rather than a public relations tool, noting that only 23 percent of bishops worldwide regularly meet with victims.

Simultaneously, the conclusion of the first stage of the Second Pastoral Synod in Krakow has introduced new social directions. The resulting Report of Synodal Work, influenced by trans activist Maria Minakowska, proposes the creation of pastoral “safe havens” for LGBTQ+ individuals. The report advocates for open dialogue with modern ideologies and the rejection of stigmatizing language. While the synodal process aims for inclusivity, some critics, such as philosophy professor Dariusz Oko, argue these shifts challenge traditional Catholic teachings on marriage and human nature.
