Archdiocese of Mexico launches Peace Mailboxes for missing persons

The Archdiocese of Mexico has launched the ‘Buzón de Paz’ (Peace Mailbox) initiative, designed to assist families searching for missing persons. The program provides a secure and anonymous way for citizens to submit information regarding the whereabouts or status of disappeared individuals through local parishes.

Under the guidelines, parishes host a physical, non-transparent, and lockable box. While the parish provides the space and physical security for the mailbox, they do not open, consult, or process the contents. Instead, the information is collected and channeled through established Archdiocese procedures. To ensure confidentiality, all information must be submitted in a sealed envelope.

In Jiquipilas, Chiapas, the first municipal installation of a Peace Mailbox took place in the central park. Local security officials and representatives from the ‘Madres Buscadoras’ (Searching Mothers) collective attended the event. The initiative aims to foster civic solidarity by providing a discreet channel for information that could help reunite families.
