Archdiocese of Poznań warns of rising youth loneliness and mental health crisis
The Social Council at the Archbishop of Poznań has issued a statement addressing the growing issue of loneliness and mental health struggles among youth. The council, which includes prominent professors, noted that social isolation is driven by weak social ties and peer pressure, rather than just family situations.
Citing data from the National Police Headquarters, the council reported that suicide attempts among children and adolescents reached 1,925 in 2025, an increase from 127 in 2024. The document also highlights concerns regarding self-harm, emotional neglect, and excessive internet use. According to the council, 22 percent of teenagers aged 11–17 reported self-harming in 2023, while 8 percent stated they had no one to turn to in difficult situations. The council calls for increased engagement from adults, families, schools, and local communities to foster genuine human connections.
