Archdiocese of Puebla announces new archbishop

Víctor Sánchez Espinosa, the apostolic administrator of the Archdiocese of Puebla, announced during a Sunday mass at the Puebla Cathedral that Jorge Arturo Patrón Wong has been appointed as the new archbishop of Puebla. The appointment, made by Pope Leo XIV, is set to take effect on November 19, when Patrón Wong will formally assume his responsibilities and occupy the archbishop's seat.

During the service, Sánchez Espinosa clarified his current role as apostolic administrator, noting that the formal seat belongs exclusively to the titular archbishop. He expressed confidence that Patrón Wong will continue the pastoral work of the archdiocese, specifically focusing on supporting youth, the community, and those living in poverty.

In addition to the leadership transition, Sánchez Espinosa offered prayers for victims of recent violence in the region, including individuals found dead in Puebla and a victim of domestic violence in Esperanza. He also addressed the importance of preserving religious and cultural heritage, specifically mentioning the San Miguel Arcángel fountain in the Puebla Zócalo, which has recently been subject to vandalism.
