Archer Aviation expands eVTOL capabilities through Boeing partnership

Archer Aviation is expanding its strategic footprint in the electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) sector through a major partnership with Boeing and the acquisition of key infrastructure. Archer is set to acquire three companies from Boeing—Wisk Aero, SkyGrid, and Insitu—to integrate autonomous flight technologies, unmanned aerial systems, and artificial intelligence into its operations. In exchange, Boeing will take a 20 percent stake in Archer Aviation.

Archer is currently developing its Midnight aircraft, designed to carry four passengers for urban air mobility. The company is targeting commercial operations in major metropolitan areas, including New York and Los Angeles. To support these efforts, Archer has taken control of Hawthorne Airport in California, which will serve as a testing base and a potential central hub for future air taxi services in the region.

Beyond commercial passenger transport, Archer is also expanding into the defense sector. In collaboration with Anduril, the company is working on an autonomous military platform, alongside a transport variant known as Halo.
