Archer-Daniels-Midland enters carbon credit market and expands in China

Archer-Daniels-Midland (ADM) has announced its entry into the voluntary carbon credit market. The company plans to issue certificates derived from carbon dioxide capture and storage facilities located at its industrial complex in Columbus, Nebraska. The site has an annual sequestration capacity exceeding 800,000 tonnes. Pending an audit, the company aims to issue its first certificates by the end of the year, potentially following Puro.earth guidelines for geologically stored carbon.

In addition to its carbon initiatives, ADM is expanding its presence in the Asia-Pacific region. The company recently opened a new aquaculture feed plant in Tianjin, China, which has an annual capacity of approximately 5,000 tonnes and is intended to serve various Asian markets.

Regarding global trade, ADM Investor Services noted that recent high-level discussions between the US and China have not indicated that Beijing intends to expand its agricultural imports beyond soybeans. This lack of diversification has influenced trading activity in corn and soybean markets.
