Archipelago Hotels and IHG expand hospitality footprints in Indonesia and Japan
Archipelago Hotels and IHG Hotels & Resorts are expanding their footprints in response to rising tourism trends in Indonesia and Japan.
In Indonesia, Archipelago Hotels is introducing five new properties across Java and Sumatra, including two new openings and three rebrandings. These include the Aston Cimone Hotel & Convention Center, Aston Malang Hotel & Conference Center, Nawana by Alana, fave+ hotel Lampung, and fave+ hotel Pamanukan. The expansion follows a 5.71% increase in foreign tourist arrivals to Indonesia during the first half of 2026.
In Japan, IHG Hotels & Resorts has entered an agreement with GCP Hospitality to manage a portfolio of 14 hotels in Kyoto, totaling 1,063 rooms. The expansion includes the Garner brand, Holiday Inn Express, and other properties undergoing renovation. This move targets the growing interest from Indonesian travelers in Japan, which saw a 13% increase in visits during the first semester of 2026.
