Architect Giovanna Massobrio dies in Calcata
Architect Giovanna Massobrio has passed away in the village of Calcata, Italy. Massobrio was the wife of the renowned architect Paolo Portoghesi, who died three years ago in the same location.
Massobrio and Portoghesi moved to Calcata in the early 1970s to escape the chaos of Rome, establishing a long-term connection to the historic village. While often recognized for her relationship with Portoghesi, Massobrio was an architect in her own right, contributing to the Italian culture of design, landscape, and the preservation of historic centers.
The Municipality of Calcata expressed its condolences, praising her kindness, elegance, and her preference for the simplicity of village life and nature over elite social circles. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, October 26, at the church of SS Cornelio and Cipriano.
