Architect José Eufemio Carrillo Atondo Honored in Hermosillo

Family members, municipal officials and staff gathered at the Hermosillo City Hall to pay tribute to the late architect José Eufemio Carrillo Atondo. The ceremony, led by Mayor Antonio Astiazarán Gutiérrez, featured a Guard of Honor and highlighted Carrillo Atondo’s three‑decade career shaping urban planning and development in Hermosillo and the state of Sonora. He was remembered as a distinguished graduate of Tecnológico de Monterrey, a public servant, and the former director of the municipal planning institute (IMPLAN). The mayor praised his lasting impact on the city’s projects, plans and institutions, emphasizing that his legacy will continue to influence Hermosillo’s growth.

The event also included participation from municipal councilors, department heads, business representatives and professional associations, all acknowledging Carrillo Atondo’s contributions to orderly urban development. The municipal government expressed its condolences to his family and reaffirmed its commitment to the principles of responsible city planning he championed.
