Architects recommend passive cooling and duct systems for efficiency

Architects are emphasizing the importance of passive climate control and efficient cooling systems to manage rising temperatures and energy costs.

Juan Goñies, director of Klic Arquitectos, highlights the distinction between active climate control, such as air conditioning and fans, and passive methods. He argues that proper house orientation and shade are the primary measures for temperature regulation, noting that air conditioning cannot compensate for poor building orientation without incurring continuous costs.

Specialists in sustainable construction, Jordi Martí and Micheel Wassouf, recommend using air duct networks rather than conventional wall-mounted units. This system introduces controlled, filtered fresh air from the exterior, which can improve air quality and efficiency. However, experts stress that these systems are most effective in new builds or major renovations where proper insulation, solar protection, and high-quality windows are already integrated to prevent heat infiltration.
