Architectural innovation shapes Mexican boutique hospitality
Mexico is seeing a rise in specialized architectural approaches within its hospitality sector, ranging from luxury minimalist design to regenerative eco-tourism.
In Acapulco, El Encanto, designed by architect Miguel Ángel Aragonés, focuses on a contemporary minimalist aesthetic. Located in Brisas Marqués, the hotel utilizes white geometric volumes, glass, and concrete to create a dialogue with the Pacific landscape, treating rooms and suites as private viewpoints to the ocean.
In Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, the Punta Pájaros boutique hotel project, designed by Alberto Kalach, emphasizes ecological regeneration. Developed by Luis Urrutia, the project covers 2.5 hectares with villas elevated above the ground to minimize land impact. The development utilizes bioclimatic principles, solar cells, and water treatment plants, aiming to leave the local ecosystem in better condition than it was found through the restoration of native species.
