Architectural innovations transform former film studios and traditional villages
Architectural projects in Denmark and the Czech Republic demonstrate innovative approaches to urban and rural living. In Copenhagen, Spacon Studio transformed former film studio warehouses into a community housing project known as Filmlageret. Originally used for film material storage by Nordisk Film, the site now features small residential units designed for students and families, connected by a pedestrian walkway and incorporating social and commercial spaces. The project received the Copenhagen City Architecture Award in 2021.
In South Moravia, the Czech studio SENAA completed the ‘Bukovansky domeček’ in Bukovany. This project revitalized a traditional vineyard alley by blending modern design with historical elements. The 105-square-meter weekend home features a massive spiral concrete staircase and utilizes reclaimed wooden beams from a demolished building in Prague. The design emphasizes minimalist modernity while respecting the narrow, historic constraints of the location.
