Architectural projects highlight modern design in Portugal
Recent architectural developments in Portugal showcase diverse approaches to landscape integration and sustainable reuse. In Paredes de Coura, architect Tiago Sousa has designed Casa Coqueira, a single-family home that departs from traditional gabled roof styles. The structure features a monolithic, transparent volume elevated on vertical concrete planes, creating a visual connection to the surrounding valleys while utilizing a mix of concrete, glass, and wood.
In the Dão region, architect Carlos Castanheira has completed a sustainable renovation of an old warehouse at Quinta da Taboadella. The project transformed a deteriorating building into a modern 2,500 m² winery. The design focuses on optimizing production and aging processes through two main naves, integrating the facility into the historic vineyard landscape while prioritizing functional workflow.
