Architectural renovations highlight contemporary design in Spain

Recent architectural projects in Spain demonstrate a blend of historical preservation and modern living. In Madrid, an apartment in the Salamanca district underwent a complete structural overhaul by architect Mario Arcas Aznar for HARP Collection. The 198-square-meter residence on Núñez de Balboa street was redesigned to eliminate dark corridors and increase natural light, while retaining original elements such as vintage radiators and an exposed iron pillar. The interior design balances mid-20th-century New York Art Deco elegance with contemporary freedom, utilizing a palette of ivory, sand, and mahogany alongside Calacatta Oyster marble.

In Murcia, a new single-family home in Llano de Brujas, designed by Ana Belén López Plazas and Rosa M. Ballester of Un estudio propio, focuses on reconnecting with the local orchard landscape. The residence consists of two distinct volumes for day and night use, integrated with a lemon grove. The construction utilizes confined masonry walls, concrete joints, and external thermal insulation to create a raw interior aesthetic. The project also incorporates high thermal inertia and a photovoltaic installation on the roof to enhance sustainability.
