Architectural renovations highlight modern living in Czech Republic and Slovakia

In Bukovany, Czech Republic, an architect has completed the extensive renovation of a small historical building, transforming it into a modern weekend home for his family. The structure, situated on a 180-square-meter plot, integrates original historical elements with contemporary design features, such as a sculptural, cast-in-place concrete spiral staircase and large-format corner windows.

The interior utilizes reclaimed wooden beams from a demolished building in Prague's Karlín district, which were cleaned and repurposed for partitions and sauna cladding. The home also includes a sauna with a courtyard view and two bedrooms in the attic.

In Slovakia, a residential project features the construction of a custom summer kitchen designed for outdoor dining and relaxation. Built over two years, the structure utilizes recycled bricks as a primary design element and includes sliding glass doors to protect against weather. The kitchen is equipped with custom cabinetry and space for a solid fuel stove, allowing for seamless connection between the cooking area and a nearby swimming pool.
