Architectural renovations revitalize historic residences in Milan and Ljubljana

Recent architectural projects highlight the preservation and modernization of historic residential spaces in Milan and Ljubljana.

In Milan, the Porta Romana project by Lupettatelier revitalizes an old apartment for a young family. The design utilizes pastel tones, burgundy, and green accents to blend romanticism with contemporary style. Key features include a living area divided by fluted glass that connects the dining space and kitchen, and an atelier for the owner that integrates creative work into the family home while maintaining historical architectural details.

In Ljubljana, the OFIS architectural bureau has completed the renovation of Vila Mirje, a residence originally designed by engineer Miroslav Kasal in the early 20th century. The project focuses on restoring architectural order and spatial hierarchy without erasing the historical layers of the building. The renovation preserves Secessionist ceramic stoves and stone staircases while introducing modern custom furniture and steel pavilions that create a transitional space between the house and the garden.
