Architectural trends emphasize sobriety and functional facades in residential and commercial design
Recent architectural trends in residential and commercial developments are shifting toward sobriety, efficiency, and functional integration with urban environments. In mid-scale residential developments, facades are increasingly being designed with useful shade as a core strategy. This approach moves beyond mere aesthetics to prioritize thermal comfort, energy savings, and durability, helping buildings harmonize with their neighborhoods through a more discreet and functional language.
In the commercial sector, projects like the Osaki restaurant in Bogotá demonstrate this move toward understated exteriors that mask complex interior experiences. Designed by Andamio Arquitectura, the project utilizes simple materials such as wood, steel, and concrete to create an atmosphere inspired by Oriental culture while remaining rooted in local identity. Notably, the design incorporates sustainable elements, such as custom tables made from recycled plastic designed to mimic the appearance of marble.
